Microsoft has identified the cause of the issue. Unfortunately this bug will still be present in the upcoming Fall Creator's update. We are continuing to work with them and will provide additional updates once we have more information on when a patch for Windows will be released containing this fix. We will do our best to expedite the process as much as possible. Thanks again for your continued updates and patience while this issue is resolved.

Since two days, after the last Windows 10 update, my P3D V 3.4 with a Oculus Rift installation crashed also after 100% load. I'm still using a very stabilized P3D Systems with ORBX and a lot of other sceneries and airplanes without any problems and without crashes more then 15 months. But now nothing helps anymore. I' did graphic card updates, intalled new sound drivers, used the P3D repair tools, but no chance to get a stabil P3D V3.4 version any more :-(

Update: Now I'm deinstall the Windows 10 KB404724 update. Let's the what happens...
Flight simulation since subLOGIC Flight Simulator II.
P3D V 3.4 / Windows 10 Pro 64bit / Oculus Rift CV1 since April 2016 / FlyInside+Leap Motion.
ORBX and a lot of other sceneries, helicopters and airplanes.

Did anyone had any issues trying to hide the updates? Managed to hide 40404724 but although 4038788 is shown as available to download is not showing on the programm to hide it.

Would you be able to share with us the cause that MS has identified.

Rob, can we have some clarity on which version of P3D will be affected?

Is it only P3D v3 or will V4 be affected also?

Let me share one of my learnings from yesterday. Maybe it helps to find some cause for it.

In my case i stayed on Windows Build 1607. I am not updating to 1703. Now i had a few read/write issues with my Documents folder in my profile. No apparent changes were made. I tried switching user from online account to local and back. I took ownership of the files as admin. No apparent reason for P3D to crash. No eventlog either.

By coincidence, yesterday, looking at the log of my Antivirus, Bitdefender i detected something in the log. Gotcha!

"prepare3.exe access to d:\daten\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\ denied"

fact is, my p3dv4 was unable to read the document folder for no obvious reason. FSDT, ORBX and FSDG Add-Ons could not be read. This lead to the crash in certain cases.

So i started to investigate further. And now the funny things is, that BitDefender with the newely realeased Version 2018 introduced a feature end of August, called File and Folder protection. In this by default all access to Pictures, Documents, Videos, Music folders is not permitted by external programs. prepare3.exe had no access permission. The program was listed as "no access". Same as FTXCentral.exe and others. I disabled the feature. Now all airports load correctly! No CTD.

This will most likely be rolled out in a future update to Windows 10 and will not require an update to Prepar3D, therefore any Prepar3D version affected by this specific issue will be fixed once the OS patch is available and installed. The specific issue here is the crash after selecting a vehicle at startup. Microsoft found a bug in .NET that can cause a crash here. Not all vehicles or other add-ons cause this to happen. Both us and Microsoft were able to reproduce this issue with the default F-35 fairly consistently. This crash could potentially happen in other UI use cases but this was the most reproducible use case we found.

If you are experiencing a different issue we recommend opening a new thread so we can investigate it. We still don't have specifics from Microsoft on when this patch will be pushed out but we are getting them the information they need as quickly as possible and are expediting this as much as possible on our end.

Hi everyone

MS just rolled out another Windows 10 update package, this time KB4041676. I decided to give it a try and results gave some reason to cautious optimism:

1st test: P3D v3.4 with PMDG 737NG at FS DreamTeam KJFK selected from starting screen - success
2nd test: P3D v3.4 with PMDG 777 at Aerosoft Frankfurt with ActiveSky 2016, selected as above - CTD at 100% loaded
3rd test: Just as 1st test but with ActiveSky 2016 in background - success

So it seems that KB4041676 might have done the trick. All above test were quick though, it takes more extensive and longer time span of course to make this 100% sure.

The only way I've found to avoid this is to remove all add-on scenery (for me, PILOT'S mesh and Orbx) from the scenery library. Then the sim loads fine every time.
